Haitian singer-songwriter Emeline Michel has emerged as the new goddess of Creole music. Her songs merge native Haitian musical styles of compas and rara with jazz and pop. Complex, intertwined percussion rhythms support her original lyrics, which she peppers with traditional proverbs and uplifting messages. A captivating performer, versatile vocalist, accomplished dancer, songwriter, and producer, Emeline sings in French and Haitian Creole as she fills the room with vibrant color and warm energy.
Join the museum’s Super Sábado celebration from 11 AM-8:30 PM, including free exhibitions, art-making workshops, film screenings, and spoken-word recitals.
