THE HAITIAN DIASPORA FEDERATION ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICERS & INITIATIVES

The Haitian Diaspora Federation (HDF) hosted a Board of Directors’ Retreat at Toussaint L’Ouverture High School for Arts & Social Justice in Delray Beach, Florida from April 5 – 7, 2013. Invitations were sent to several interested parties.  As stated in numerous preliminary correspondences with all involved, the HDF Board sought to do the following at the retreat:

  • ·         Consider all submitted proposals for the vision and future of the HDF; persons or organizations submitted proposals either in person or teleconference.
  • ·         Review the mission and vision of the HDF;
  • ·         Determine its areas of work and priorities;
  • ·         Determine how to fund its work;
  • ·         Consider amendments to its by-laws including expansion of the board;
  • ·         Review and adopt suitable structure of the HDF;
  • ·         Establish an advisory board and determine its role;
  • ·         Hold elections of its 2013 officers. 

The Board made significant progress in addressing the above objectives, such as expansion of the Board and membership for greater inclusion.

Athletes for Haiti (A4H) mobilizes professional athletes, sports teams/leagues, and corporations to support education, sports, and art initiatives to benefit the youth of Haiti. The overall objective is to raise awareness about the plight of Haitian and Haitian American children in Haiti and the United States and to benefit such youth through mentoring programs, sports initiatives and academic scholarships.

Beneficiaries: Donations benefit Athletes for Haiti initiatives in Haiti.

Your donations will help:

Help feed approx. 500 youth in Haiti that Athletes for Haiti will be visiting in May 2013.

Help cover the costs of tuitions for several students to attend school Fall 2013.

Help purchase dolls for young girls. (for most of them this will be their very first barbie)

Help purchase sports balls/sports equipment to distribute to the youth on Sports Day*.

(*Sports Day is an A4H initiative.)

Home is where the heart is!

Following the Haiti Earthquake of 2010, an estimate of 1.5 million people were left homeless. Habitat for Humanity has been working ever since to mitigate the issue of homelessness in Haiti.  Today 155 families in Léogâne, Haiti will move into their new Habitat homes!
